Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers about JokerCard activation, balance checks, security, and everyday use in Canada.
General
What is a JokerCard?
JokerCard is a prepaid gift card that works on the Mastercard or Visa network. You can use it anywhere those networks are accepted across Canada and worldwide, both online and in physical stores.
Where can I buy a JokerCard?
JokerCards are available at major Canadian retailers including grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, and convenience stores. They are also available online from authorized resellers.
What denominations are available?
JokerCards typically come in fixed denominations (such as CAD 25, 50, 100, 200) and variable load amounts up to CAD 500, depending on the retailer and card type.
Activation
How do I activate my JokerCard?
Most JokerCards are activated automatically at the point of sale when the cashier processes your purchase. If your card is not active, visit the activation portal, enter the card number, expiration date, and security code printed on the card.
How long does activation take?
Activation is usually instant when processed at checkout. Online activation typically completes within a few minutes. In rare cases, it may take up to 24 hours.
My card is not activating — what should I do?
First, double-check the card number and security code. Make sure you waited a few minutes after purchase. If activation still fails, contact the issuer using the support number on the back of the card and have your receipt ready.
Balance
How do I check my JokerCard balance?
You can check your balance through the official online portal by entering your card number, expiry date, and CVV. You can also call the toll-free number on the back of the card for an automated balance check.
Is there a fee to check my balance?
No. Checking your balance — whether online or by phone — is completely free and unlimited.
Why does my balance look lower than expected?
Pending authorizations from merchants (such as gas pumps and hotels) can temporarily reduce your available balance. These holds release within a few business days. Check your transaction history for full details.
Can I see my full transaction history?
Yes. The online portal provides a complete list of authorizations, settled transactions, and any fees charged to the card.
Security
What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?
Report it immediately to the card issuer using the support number on your purchase receipt or the issuer website. If the card was registered, the remaining balance can typically be transferred to a replacement card.
Is the JokerCard secure?
Yes. JokerCards use the same fraud-protection systems as Mastercard or Visa, including zero-liability policies for unauthorized transactions, EMV chip security, and 24/7 fraud monitoring.
How do I avoid prepaid card scams?
Never share your card number, CVV, or PIN with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly. Legitimate businesses, government agencies, and tech-support companies will never ask you to pay with a prepaid gift card. If asked, it is a scam — hang up and report it.
Usage
Can I use my JokerCard online?
Yes. JokerCards work for online purchases anywhere Mastercard or Visa is accepted. When asked for a billing address, use the address you registered the card with — or your home address if you did not register.
Can I use my JokerCard outside Canada?
Yes, JokerCards are accepted internationally wherever the network logo is displayed. Note that foreign-currency conversion fees may apply.
Can I reload my JokerCard?
Most JokerCards are single-load (non-reloadable). When the balance reaches zero, you can purchase a new card. Some specific reloadable variants are available from select retailers.
Does my JokerCard expire?
The card itself has an expiration date printed on the front. The funds on the card never expire — if your card expires before you spend the balance, you can request a free replacement card from the issuer.
